Carnival 2025
Carnival originally began as a protest in resistance against racist riots in 1958 by groups such as, the White Defence League, who carried out five nights of racial violence against Caribbean communities in Notting Hill and Nottingham. In the following years of this violence and brutality, several Caribbean activists would hold different festivities to commemorate and celebrate Caribbean culture. This is where Notting Hill Carnival was then created in 1966 by Rhaune Laslett and Andre Shervington.
